Oil Originals: Hyrum Joe

Although Hyrum might be recognized as the son of the internationally known alabaster sculptor and bronze artist, Oreland Joe, he has certainly proved that he can stand on his own two feet. Hyrum creates some of the most visually compelling and original works of art in oil that we've seen by anyone his age. Last year he won the SWAIA fellowship and subsequently sold out at his very first Indian Market event.

We are delighted to have this opportunity to show Hyrum's work, which can be seen in only a handful of the most prestigious galleries in Colorado and New Mexico. Because of our close, personal relationship, we were lucky enough to acquire these recent originals, and we look forward to bringing you more.

Turquoise Boy was the showpiece for our ad in the Heard Market Magazine. The young man in the painting is from the Two Grey Hills area of the Navajo Nation. His father dressed him in his ceremonial attire and paraded him around that day. Hyrum happened to be on site and took a quick snapshot of the boy. It wasn't until the magazine was released that the father saw our ad and called me directly. He was surprised and delighted to see his son as the subject of this amazing centerpiece. It was an exciting reunion when he met with us during our trunk show and had the opportunity to meet Hyrum and take photos with him and the painting. Hyrum also autographed his copy of the magazine ad.
